Deanna Kernan, President

Deanna Kernan is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA)Certified Tennis Professional and has been in the tennis business for over 20 years. The Kernans relocated to Florida from Rochester, New York (in year 2004).

In 2005, Deanna was hired by Martin Downs Country Club (MDCC) as the Director of Tennis. From the very first day she stepped onto the grounds of what was then known as The Village Club at Martin Downs Country Club she knew it was a special place. Over the years she has developed strong relationships with the club members and enjoyed creating entertaining social programs and activities at the club.

In 2008, the Village Club was split off from MDCC when new owners purchased MDCC. Deanna’s family decided that purchasing the Village Club would be a great opportunity for them to provide a complete fitness, sports & social experience for Treasure Coast residents. The Kernan’s renamed the Village Club and opened Martin Downs Sports Resort on April 1, 2008.

Cyrus Krefting, Head Tennis Professional

Cyrus Krefting is a Tennis Registry (PTR) certified Tennis Professional originally from Cincinnati, OH. Cyrus attended Ferris State University, majoring in Professional Tennis Management. He arrived at our club with a passion for the sport of tennis and a dedication to its players. Cyrus has a history of training sectional ranked players in the Florida, Mid-Atlantic and Southern sections of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He has been involved in several USTA programs including RalleyBall and Quickstart Tennis. While at Ferris State, Cyrus competed in the NIRSA Midwest Championships, advancing to the National Championships. He has also played In the USTA Florida State Championships at the 5.5 level. He enjoys introducing tennis as a lifetime sport to all ages.

Cyrus’ goal is to provide positive and memorable experiences for the patrons of Martin Downs Sports Resort. Previous places of employment include: Camargo Country Club, Van der Meer Tennis, the Florida Tennis Center, Georgetown Prep Tennis Club and the Lexington Tennis Club. He is excited to be a part of the team at Martin Downs Sports Resort.

Mary Malloy, Pro Shop Manager

Mary Malloy is originally from Chicago. When she moved to Jacksonville in 2000 she was happy to swing something else besides a snow shovel, so she picked up a tennis racquet....and the love affair began.

Mary came to the Sports Resort to play team tennis in 2008. Deanna, the owner was so impressed with her attention to detail, quick wit & bubbly personality that she knew she wanted Mary to be on her team in the Pro Shop as well as playing interclub team tennis for the Sports Resort.

Mary can help you with any questions about membership, programs, special events & any purchases in the Pro Shop. She is in the “know” at the Sports Resort. Just ask!

Nancy Hinterleiter, Aqua Aerobics Instructor

Nancy teaches Aqua Aerobics every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. . Aqua Aerobics lets you strengthen muscles and increase flexibility without pain! 

You will also get aerobic benefits, fat burning and full range of motion exercises with invigorating and relaxing movements.  The class is only as hard or easy as you want it to be.  All levels are welcome and encouraged to work at their own pace.  Join Nancy and you will be sure to have a good time exercising to music in a joint safe environment.

Nancy has a degree in Health & Physical Education originally from Pennsylvania.  After college she worked as a private trainer, tennis coach, and instructor at fitness facilities.  She moved to Boca Raton and was the Athletic Director for the Boca Raton Resort and Club.  Re-locating to Hobe Sound 12 years ago, she has been working in the tennis and fitness industry while raising 3 children with her husband.  Come out and experience the fun while getting fit!!!
